United Way would like to thank the community for an A+ turnout for our recent STUFF THE BUS school supply drives on July 26 at The Kroc Center and July 27 at Walmart in Waynesboro. Planning for the event began in May, when local businesses were invited to conduct school supply drives and bring their collected items to one of the Stuff the Bus events. Individuals and families were also invited to participate.
Almost 40 companies donated supplies, including: A.B. Beverage Co., ADP, American Family Insurance, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary,
Augusta Metro Federal Credit Union, AWP, Covidien, CSRA Credit Union, Delta Air Lines, Electrolux, Friendship Community Center,
General Dynamics. Georgia Bank & Trust, Health South/Walton Rehabilitation, International Paper, Mom’s Club of Augusta, Office Depot,
Paine College, Palmetto GBA, Publix Super Markets, Sheraton Hotel, SME, Solvay Specialty Polymers, Staples, Walmart at Bobby Jones, and WJBF News Channel 6.
Sponsors for the event were The Augusta Chronicle, Border Bash Foundation, and WJBF News Channel 6 and their Giving Your Best Parnters – Georgia Bank & Trust, Health South/Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, and Solvay Specialty Polymers.
Ms. La Verne Gold, President/CEO of United Way of the CSRA said, “With many local families living at the poverty level, acquiring supplies for the new school year poses a real problem. United Way and our partners wanted to do something to help, and we believed that the community would rally together to help those in need if given the opportunity. The generosity of these communities certainly exceeded our greatest expectations.”
School buses from Richmond, Columbia, and Burke Counties were filled with supplies (over 10,000 items). The estimated value of supplies received to date is over $21,000. All the donated supplies were distributed to children in Richmond, Columbia, Burke, Jefferson, and Lincoln Counties.
Thank you, CSRA, for making the fifth annual STUFF THE BUS school supply drive a tremendous success, and thank you for Living United!
