The new school year will be here before we know it, and families will soon be purchasing new school supplies for their children. For many households in our community this becomes a serious financial burden. Nearly one quarter of all families in the area are living in poverty and do not have the means to buy even basic school necessities.
United Way wants to help our local students by hosting its 6th Annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive. On Friday, July 25, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at The Salvation Army’s Kroc Center and Saturday, July 26, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Walmart in Waynesboro, school buses will be parked on-site to collect school supply donations. Cash donations will also be accepted and used to purchase supplies. All proceeds from the event will benefit at-risk students in the CSRA. As a thank you to those delivering donations, a free lunch of hot dogs and lemonade will be served.
The Stuff the Bus initiative is just one way the community can rally together to help these children. Our goal is to help as many students as possible, and to do this, we need to collect as many supplies as possible. With the community’s support, we can help our local students achieve success in the new school year. Parents wishing to receive these school supplies for their children should contact the Board of Education for their child’s school district for instructions on how to receive the supplies.
This event is made possible through the generosity of our partners: The Border Bash Foundation, The Augusta Chronicle, and WJBF News Channel 6 and their Giving Your Best Partners: Georgia Bank & Trust, Solvay Specialty Polymers, and Health South.
United Way invites everyone to attend the Stuff the Bus event on July 25 at The Salvation Army’s Kroc Center or July 26 at the Walmart in Waynesboro.
