United Way of the CSRA's Day-of-Caring, "Project Serve 2008", was a great success! On Friday, April 25, 2008, over 150 volunteers donated one full-day of hard labor to 12 local, non-profit, health and human service agencies. Volunteers from Atlanta Gas Light Company, Augusta Service Company/Austin First Citizens Bank, Palmetto GBA, Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Company, and Washington Savannah River Company performed projects ranging from painting and landscaping to building repair and playground installation.
A special thank you to the event sponsors, Akima and CSRA Business Lending. The agencies receiving the volunteer labor were Augusta Training Shop, Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of AUGUSTA, Family Counseling Center of the CSRA, The Family Y, Friendship Community Center, Girl Scouts, Central Savannah River Council, Girls Inc., Heritage Academy (Fireside Ministries), Safe Homes of Augusta, Inc., The Salvation Army, Shiloh Comprehensive Community Center, and St. Stephen’s Ministry of Augusta.
Without the help of these generous volunteers, most of these agencies could not afford to have this much-needed work done. Because of the generosity of the volunteers, the local agencies are able to direct their resources to helping those in need in our community.
Please watch for details on Project Serve 2009 which is scheduled for April 2009. We will be looking for organizations interested in volunteering for this event next spring. Projects available will include landscaping, construction, painting, and much more! This is a great teambuilding idea for any organization.
Groups of all sizes and skills are welcome! Please call Brooke Howell at United Way (706-724-5544) for more information on how you can be involved.
