COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS LEND A HELPING HAND

On Friday, April 24, 2009, over 150 volunteers from local companies converged on 11 local non-profit, health and human service agencies to lend a much-needed hand.   United Way of the CSRA’s ninth annual day-of-caring, Project Serve, kicked-off at 7:00 a.m. with a hearty breakfast at First Presbyterian Church.  Then, the industrious and high-spirited volunteers proceeded to designated agencies where their projects had already been coordinated.

This year’s event was sponsored by Akima, CSRA Business Lending and Hands On Georgia.  Volunteers from AmeriCorps VISTA, Atlanta Gas Light Company, Augusta Service Company/Austin, First Citizens Bank, Palmetto GBA, Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Company, Security Federal Bank, and The SRS Team spent the day working in 11 United Way partner agencies performing projects ranging from painting and landscaping to playground installation.

The agencies receiving the donated labor were the Boys & Girls Clubs of AUGUSTA; Communities in Schools of Burke County; The Family Y; Friendship Community Center; Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia; Heritage Academy (Fireside Ministries); Safe Homes of Augusta; The Salvation Army; Senior Citizens Council of Greater Augusta and the CSRA, Georgia, Inc.; Shiloh Comprehensive Community Center; and St. Stephen’s Ministry of Augusta.

Last year, over $25,000 of labor and materials were donated for Project Serve.  Without the help of these generous volunteers, most of these agencies could not afford to have this much-needed work done.  Because of the generosity of the volunteers, the local health and human service agencies are able to direct their resources to helping those in need in our community.  Click to view event photos
