"It’s ShowTime!"
The Combined Federal Campaign kicked off its 2009 Campaign on Thursday, September 3, with a variety show event held at Alexander Hall at Fort Gordon. The theme of the kick-off event was ShowTime at Fort Gordon with winners of the base’s talent competition displaying their talents in the areas of music, drama, and dance. WJBF personality, Kimberly Scott, served as emcee and announced the CFC’s goal of $850,000.
Rick Herring of Augusta Urban Ministries and Sarah Townsend of American Red Cross of Augusta addressed the crowd and stressed the dependency of local agencies on the CFC, while actor Kevin Bacon spoke on behalf of Fisher House via video. Also speaking via video were Campaign Co-Chairs, General Jeff Foley of Fort Gordon and Jeff Allison of the Department of Energy who stressed the importance of participation in the CFC campaign. LaVerne Gold, President/CEO of United Way of the CSRA, addressed attendees thanking them for previous support and encouraging participation this year because of the softening economy. Brigadier General Jennifer Napper, Commanding General, 7th Signal Command, also stressed the importance of CFC donations, congratulating attendees on a successful 2008 campaign. While at the podium, she took a moment to complete her 2009 pledge card and urged fellow soldiers and other attendees to do the same.
An agency fair was held following the event with more than 20 CFC recipient agencies displaying information. A big thank you to Pat Camacho of Fort Gordon who coordinated this year’s event!
