Ed Enoch Named 2007 Volunteer of the Year!
At United Way of the CSRA’s Annual Meeting on Tuesday, February 26, Mr. Tom Tynan, Vice President, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, named Mr. J. Edward Enoch, Jr. as the recipient of the Alvin W. Vogtle Volunteer of the Year Award for 2007.
This is the twenty-fourth year that the award has been presented to an individual who best represents the spirit of service to the community. This award is significant in terms of the life of Alvin Vogtle, former Chairman of the Board for Southern Nuclear Operating Company. Mr. Vogtle is remembered not only as a leader with great foresight, but also for his heroism in World War II. His life became the basis for the book and movie, The Great Escape, which tells of his repeated attempts to escape his captors.
Mr. Enoch, who was nominated by The Family Y, is well known throughout the community. He has been a long-time supporter of The Family Y and has shared his time, talent and resources in a variety of ways. He is currently the Chairman of the Metro Board of Directors. His involvement on the Board spans the last six years, including being part of the Selection Committee that hired Dan McConnell as President/CEO in 2002. He served as the Chairman of the Personnel Committee for three years and has been on the Executive Committee for most of his tenure on the Board. His leadership has made a great impact, particularly during the past three years, as he has helped to make crucial decisions that have led to tremendous growth for The Family Y. Under his leadership as Chairman of the Board this year, decisions have been made to move to new locations in North Augusta and Thomson and to open in a temporary location in Aiken while building the Wyatt Family YMCA.
Mr. Enoch’s hard work and dedication is not limited to The Family Y. He also has a long history of service to organizations such as United Way of the CSRA, Golden Harvest Food Bank, and The Community Foundation for the CSRA. He is also very involved in the programs of his church, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where he has served on the Vestry, taught Sunday School to high school students, and has led two overseas pilgrimages for youth. Mr. Enoch was also instrumental in bringing Interfaith Hospitality to Augusta and has participated in the Golf Marathon fundraiser for the past four years and has been the top fundraiser for the past two years. He has also served as President of the Augusta South Rotary Club and as President of the Augusta-Aiken Society of Human Resource Managers. Mr. Enoch continues to be an active and involved community citizen who is well-known throughout the community!
Mr. Tynan also presented Mr. Enoch with a check for $2,750 from Southern Nuclear Operating Company to be donated to his charity of choice.
Also nominated for this prestigious award were Mr. Bill Bohling, Ms. Towanna Godowns, Mr. Chess Howard Jr., and Mr. Hardi Jones.
