The Society was inspired by the observations of the French historian who wrote about the Americans’ unique spirit of voluntary association and voluntary effort for the common good. This spirit lives at the very heart of United Way.

The Society provides an opportunity to unite people and resources to build a stronger, healthier community. An annual gift of $10,000 to United Way’s Tocqueville Society is the most effective way to make a powerful difference in the CSRA. Your membership in the Society will continue the tradition noted by de Tocqueville during the birth of the United States. You will also set the standard for others to follow and increase the philanthropic efforts in the CSRA.

Step-Up Challenge: The Step-Up Challenge grant program allows donors to plan and budget for the significant and ongoing commitment of an annual ADT investment. The donor pledges $5,000 for the first year, and $7,500 for the second year. That pledge will be matched for the next two years, and after that the donor will commit to an annual leadership gift of $10,000 or greater in order to maintain membership in the Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
