2008 CSRA CAMPAIGN KICKOFF

United Way "Lights the Way" In the  CSRA

United Way kicked-off the 2008 Campaign on August Light the Way Resized25, 2008, at Bell Auditorium with nearly 650 guests in attendance.  The event hosted many community and business leaders, local civic club members, health and human service agencies, government officials, and representatives from various businesses in the CSRA. The theme for this year's campaign is 'Light the Way', and United Way encouraged their guests to light the way in the community by giving, advocating and volunteering.
Ms. Meredith Anderson and Mr. Richard Rogers, News Anchors with WRDW TV News 12, presided over the luncheon which was presented by Georgia Power, Southern Nuclear Operating Company and Wachovia. Children from the 4K program at The Family Y Child Development Center entertained the crowd with several songs including a lively performance of "This Little Light of Mine."  Mayor Deke Copenhaver presented a Proclamation to Ms. LaVerne Gold, President/CEO of United Way, designating August 25 as "United Way Day" in Augusta.

Kellogg Company was recognized for their receipt of United Way of America's Spirit of America Summit Award last May. The Spirit of America® Award is United Way's highest tribute for corporate community involvement. They were honored for their outstanding commitment to improving lives in local communities throughout America.

Mr. Walt Dukes, 2008 Campaign Chair, announced that this year's goal is $4.5 million dollars.  He said, "It takes everyone working together to succeed.  United Way's success is not just a dollar amount; it's the countless number of lives that will be touched next year by a community working together."
