FEED THE CHILDREN COMES TO AUGUSTA!
Corporations and Nonprofits Work Together to FEED THE CHILDREN
On October 24, 2014, United Way of the CSRA came together with Teleperformance staff at 84 Lumber to distribute over 20,000 pounds of food and hygiene items to 400 families with children. Teleperformance and their employees were responsible for bringing FEED THE CHILDREN to Augusta and asked United Way to partner with them to handle the distribution process. United Way then partnered with 14 host agency sites that were responsible for identifying and pre-approving families for the event. United Way’s AmeriCorps*VISTAs donated their time the day of the event to help make the distributions.
Hunger’s roots go deep and hurt kids in our community every day. In fact, more than 28.8 percent of Georgia’s children live in food-insecure households. The goal of the community service project was to provide hope and resources for those without life’s essentials – like food. Persons receiving the items included veterans, military families, and others experiencing the effects of poverty in Richmond, Columbia and Burke Counties.
Participating agencies included:
Action Ministries – Maxwell House
Augusta Partnership for Children
Augusta Warrior Project
Boys & Girls Clubs
Columbia County Cares
CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority – Head Start
Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries
First Baptist Church of Augusta
New Bethlehem Community Center
Senior Citizens Council
Wimberly House Ministries – Burke County
Thanks to Teleperformance and their employees for their generosity in bringing FEED THE CHILDREN to the local community! And, thanks to 84 Lumber who hosted the event in their parking lot. Great community effort!
