United Way thanks the community for their outstanding support of the 2017 Stuff the Bus school supply drives in July.

United Way Thanks Community for Stuffing the Bus for Local Students!

United Way would like to thank the community and local businesses for the tremendous support of the 2017 Stuff the Bus School Supply Drives.  The drives conducted on July 22 at the Waynesboro Walmart, July 28 at The Kroc Center, and July 29 at the Bobby Jones Walmart collected over 30,618 school supplies valued at over $41,755 for students in Burke, Columbia, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Richmond Counties.

The Stuff the Bus initiative is just one way the community rallies together to help local children.  With the community’s support, we are able to prepare our local students to achieve success in the new school year.

This year’s event saw over 30 local companies stepping up to contribute to this worthy cause.  These local businesses ran internal school supply drives within their companies and then dropped off their collections to one of the three drop-off sites.  Buses from Burke, Columbia, and Richmond counties were on hand to load the supplies and deliver them back to their respective Boards of Education (BOE).  The BOEs will now distribute the supplies to the schools in their districts with the greatest need.   Parents wishing to receive these school supplies for their children should contact the Board of Education in their child’s school district.

This event is made possible through the generosity of our many partners:  The Augusta Chronicle, Augusta University/AU Health, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Doctors Hospital, Electrolux Major Appliances, Fifth Third Bank, Georgia Power, MAU Workforce Solutions, University Health Care System, Walmart, WJBF News Channel 6, and their Giving Your Best Partners: South State Bank and Solvay Specialty Polymers.
