Free Prescription Discount Program

FamilyWize negotiates discounts on prescription drugs at pharmacies nationwide, including the major chains like Walgreens and CVS. In return, they are able to offer a lower price through their card. United Way has a nationwide partnership to distribute the FamilyWize prescription discount card (that is not insurance) to our volunteers, donors, and citizens of our service area in hope to bring affordable prescriptions to all households.

Since 2009, over $2 million dollars have been saved through this program in the CSRA. Last year in 2017, residents saved a total of $189,989 on their prescriptions.

Flu and Health Clinics

Collaborations at Local Agency and Health Fairs

Between our AmeriCorps VISTAs and 2-1-1 Referral Department, our United Way participates in about ten (10) health and wellness-related clinics and events across our service area each year. During winter months, we participate in multiple free flu clinics for our residents in hopes to diminish the effects of seasonal illness.

If you have a health event coming up and would like to have United Way, our VISTAs,

or 2-1-1 attend, please send us an email

Feed the Children

Local Collaboration with Teleperformance to Help Feed the Less Fortunate

In November 2017, one of the largest international charities (Feed the Children) delivered a semi tractor-trailer full of food and essentials to help local children, and their families, in need. Thanks to the generosity of Augusta Teleperformance employees, every three years this initiative takes place to provide life basics to local people in need.

Over 20,000 pounds of food and life essentials were distributed to 400 less fortunate families with children, to include Veterans and military families, experiencing poverty in Richmond, Columbia, and Burke Counties. Of the mentioned total, 50 families were served from Burke County alone, a county in United Way's service area that the U.S. Census Bureau has ranked No. 1 in the nation in child poverty.

Operation Seats & Feet

Annual Socks and Underwear Collection Drive

In 2017, United Way launched its first Operation Seats & Feet initiative to tackle a very common problem in our local area - children attend school too often without basic essentials such as socks and underwear.

While in our first year the collection ran from June to August, we will continue to welcome donations throughout the year as this need never decreases. We collect items for both boys and girls ages 4 to 12.  Local businesses are encouraged to create collection bins, individuals can drop off a donation at our office location, and churches can hold their version of "Undie Sundays" to collect these much-needed items.

Each pair of socks and underwear are wrapped discretely as to not embarrass the child and given to local guidance counselors, social workers, and nurses at severely impoverished schools.   To learn how you can participate CLICK HERE .

MLK Service Day Project

VISTA-Lead Toiletry Collection and Distribution Event

Each year our AmeriCorps VISTAs partner with local businesses, schools, and churches to collect much-needed toiletries (from October to January) for our area homeless or severely impoverished.

In 2017, over 1,800 personal hygiene kits were distributed during our MLK Service Day Project to homeless individuals and families. Additionally, United Way provided boxes of toiletry items to eight (8) partner agencies and four (4) severely impoverished local elementary schools.
