See how it works. Trained volunteers protect donor investment.
United Way of the CSRA Citizens Review panels are composed entirely of community volunteers and are responsible for visiting United Way's partner agencies annually to review the funded programs and services as well as make funding recommendations bi-yearly in our Community Investment Process. These panels are vital in maintaining United Way agency credibility and accountability to the community while ensuring the community outcomes are being effectively evaluated.

Year Round Engagement
We've always got something going on. Scroll down to see how we are involved all year round.
Each year, United Way of the CSRA partners with various local businesses, government agencies, and other community partners to ensure we are making an impact in our local communities in the most beneficial ways. Below is a summary of what typically happens in what we call "a United Way year."
Many of the below activities and initiatives are expected to grow, which means we need YOUR help. Whether you can volunteer for an event, help United Way staff pick up items for our collection drives, or help share event flyers and online posts to get the word out, WE would love to have you be a part of our team.
MLK Service Day Project Toiletry Collection Drive
Collection Period - October through January
-
Distributed as our MLK Service Day Project on, or around, MLK Jr.'s birthday.
-
Each year our team holds a toiletry collection drive around the CSRA. New items are collected, organized, and packaged into toiletry kits for our severely impoverished and homeless population in the CSRA.
-
Hygiene kits are distributed to local partners such as government agencies, school guidance counselors, and social workers.
Stuff the Bus School Supply Collection Drive
Collection Period - June to August
-
We partner with local businesses, civic groups, individuals, and churches to collect new school supplies for our less fortunate children in the CSRA.
-
Two (2) events are held each year: One at the Waynesboro Walmart for our Burke County children, and one at the Kroc Center that gets divided among Richmond, Columbia, and other counties.
Project Serve Day of Caring Community-Wide Service Day
August
-
Volunteers from several local companies, organizations, and schools spend the day with nonprofit agencies in the CSRA and complete projects such as painting, yard work, playground construction, basic repairs and more. Groups of all sizes and skill sets are welcome!
Operation Seats & Feet Sock and Underwear Collection Drive
Collection Period - July to September
-
We partner with local businesses, civic groups, individuals, and churches to collect new socks and underwear for our less fortunate PreK-6 children in the CSRA.
-
Each set of items are discretely wrapped and provided to local government agencies, social workers, and school counselors for distribution as needed.
Notes of Encouragement Sign or Write a Supportive Note to Others
Collection Period - All year round
-
Brighten a local student's day by writing a note of encouragement they need while in their younger, most influential, years. Offer appreciation to teachers who provide the power of education giving a better future for the next generation or show you care by writing a supportive note to a senior citizen.
-
Download our notecard templates and write a supportive message, showcase powerful words, and make a child, a teacher, senior citizen or someone in need that you will never meet, smile.
-
Send us an email so we can schedule a pick up of your handwritten notecards and distribute them.
Blankets for the Homeless Blanket and Fleece Collection Drive
Collection Period - October - January
-
We partner with local businesses, civic groups, individuals, and churches to collect blankets, or fleece-like material, to provide warmth to our local homeless population.
-
Civic and church groups have collected material in the past and made blankets themselves as a group activity.
-
New blankets, already made craft blankets, and blanket material is welcomed.
