Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Every year, VITA programs help taxpayers file their tax returns correctly and on time, for FREE, if they earn $60,000 or less. Help put money back in the pockets of taxpayers to build financial stability.
Volunteers will assist with tax preparation services from mid-January through the end of March. Training and equipment will be provided.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program assists eligible taxpayers in satisfying their tax responsibilities by providing FREE tax return preparation. This tax season, United Way of the CSRA will sponsor several VITA sites to bring this crucial service to residents of the CSRA.
Every year, VITA programs assist individuals who earn $60,000 or less file their tax returns correctly and on time. Even if taxpayers are not required to file, they may still be eligible to receive money back, especially if they had federal income tax withheld or made estimated tax payments. By preparing these tax returns, volunteers help put money back into the pockets of taxpayers to build financial stability.
Anyone, regardless of experience, may volunteer to
participate in the VITA program!
Volunteers gain valuable experience through the VITA program. They also earn a sense of satisfaction from helping put money back in the hands of their community and neighbors. Certain individuals may qualify for Continuing Education Credits.
In order to participate, volunteers must:

Submit a volunteer application HERE.

Attend a training session. Options include in-person workshops, lasting approx. 6 hours (November and December dates TBD), and/or you may complete an online, self-paced training module.

Complete an IRS Certification Assessment (estimated time is 4 hours)

Pass certification exams as specified by VITA program requirements. Level of certification depends on a volunteer’s desired role.
Volunteers will assist with tax preparation services from mid-January through the end of March. We are asking for 1-2 hours per week, but are flexible with scheduling.
Training and equipment will be provided.
